Project description: Two students, Trevor Young and Jill Tetrick would like to conduct a study on the impact of noise on birds in the reserve for their class project. They would like to observe birds in an area near a road and a more interior site which may be less noisy. They will need to make a reconnaissance trip to determine exactly where they are going to make their observations. They will be recording observations, birds will not be handled or disturbed in any way. Their email addresses are: jtetrick@scrippscol.edu and tyoung@pitzer.edu.

Project description: Bio 41E is an intermediate level course in ecology and evolution. Most of our work at the BFS is strictly observational. Project I (Sept-Oct) involves students observing and describing both flora and fauna on study plots throughout the BFS. Terrestrial invertebrates will be captured in pitfall traps for this project. Project II (Oct) involves observing behavior of seed-eating birds at feeders. Birds will not be handled. During the remainder of the semester, students will be conducting independent projects at BFS and/or in the lab and will apply individually for any interventive work that they propose.
